Karin Kraft  is the Chair of the Sustainable Community Roundtable. She is working at the Department of Ecology in environmentally preferable purchasing in the Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction Program.  She is also the Interagency Coordinator for Sustainability.  Karin has a Master’s in Environmental Studies from the Evergreen State College, a BS in Zoology from Texas A&M University and a K-12 teacher's certification.   Karin and her husband, Gene, have raised two fine young men, Fritz and Karl, who are working and attending college.  Karin likes to cycle, paint, kayak, read, and play with her dog, Baldr.

Larry Hall is the Treasurer of the Roundtable Board.  Larry has been a project lead engineer working in R&D and production at Boeing since 1986.  His interest in the Roundtable stems from seeing too many engineering projects end in failure when people involved ignored obvious signs of future trouble.  His goal is to increase sustainability awareness for policymakers and the public to maximize the chances for positive outcomes for the environment and communities of the South Sound.  Larry has a PhD in Physics from Purdue University, and partially completed the Masters in Environmental Studies Program at Evergreen.  He is a recovering workaholic, prone to frequent relapses of excessive overtime.  In his spare time, he cycles, skis, and enjoys kayaking and crabbing in Puget Sound.  He was Director of the Roundtable from 2003 to 2005.  Larry and his wife Martha are proud parents of twins. They want to make sure Jack and Maya will be able to enjoy the same quality of life we now have in the South Sound through their lifetimes.

Chris Hawkins is currently a graduate student in community and regional planning at the University of British Columbia, but lives, works and plays in Olympia, WA.  He works for the Thurston County STEPS to a Healthier US Program as its Active Communities Coordinator.  He is consultant to the LUTAQH land use and transportation planning project in King County.  Chirs has served over the past decade with several South Sound public interest and non-profit organizations in environment and social development work, including Alliance for Public Transportation, Capital Bicycling Club, Climate Solutions/Energy Outreach Center, Olympia Safe Streets, South Sound YMCA and SPEECH.  He has followed a passion for outdoor activity by advocating for non-motorized transportation and trails at the local and state level.

Taylor Pittman works as an Information and Education Specialist with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. She has lived in the South Sound area for over 9 years and came here because there are “resources left to protect” after earning a Master’s of Science degree in Environmental Sciences from the University of Idaho, Moscow. Before that she ran wilderness leadership programs for adults, children and at-risk youth in Canada, the US and Europe. After living for 12 years on a 365-acre organic farm and ranch in Colorado, she came to appreciate the time, tenacity and vision it takes to build sustainable community where humans and non-humans can thrive as they co-exist.

Nicole Ricketts is a current Board Member of the Sustainable Community Roundtable and Chair of the Education and Outreach Committee.  Professionally, Nicole is a Conservation Education Outreach Specialist for the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and coordinates, develops, and manages programs that involve citizen scientists in fish and wildlife research projects. Nicole also helps lead agency efforts around sustainability on the WDFW Sustainability Team. She develops outreach campaigns and conducts research for agency staff in order implement best practices around sustainability. Nicole originally comes from Arizona with a bachelor’s in Environmental Studies from Northern Arizona University. She has been grateful to call Washington State her home for going on 7 years.

Russell Gilsdorf moved to Olympia in 1994 and has 10 years experience in the outdoor industry as a senior staff member and manager at The Alpine Experience, a human powered, outdoor adventure sports retail store. Russ is a high school graduate and has had some vocational and professional education. He has been a member of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) for 4 years. Russ is responsible for sustainability practices and policies for 24 employees in a 10,000 SF retail store. He has been a volunteer instructor with the 4H Challenge and Boy Scout merit badges and was the Basic Climbing Course chair for the Olympia branch of The Mountaineers. Russ's favorite hobbies are hiking, backpacking, backcountry skiing, kayaking and refurbishing almost anything that is old. His personal goal is to minimize his impact on the environment, share this information with the community, and maintain a comfortable, reasonable standard of living.  “My personal mission is to facilitate an atmosphere which encourages all stakeholders to work on proactive planning and balanced solutions through the mutual sharing of information and finding common ground.”
